When our clients inherited this 1920’s home, they knew a remodel would soon follow. With only one bathroom in the home, no primary suite, and a closed-in kitchen their home was feeling dated.

We started by reimagining the space to create an open floorplan, with better flow on the main floor, and a new dormer. We completely rebuilt the inside of the home, demolishing the interior down to the studs and subfloor.

The challenge was to fit a second floor within the rooflines of a classic cottage, we replaced the existing floor joists and rafters to meet current building and energy codes while respecting the look and feel of the home. Determining the right location for the new staircase was the most challenging part of the layout. Removing walls and opening up the hall created space for the staircase to the 2nd floor beautifully, and a new formal dining room.
The shed dormer added 567 sq ft, creating space for a Primary suite, which includes a bedroom with a large walk-in closet, and a bathroom large enough to accommodate a soaking tub, curbless shower and separate water closet.

Back on the main floor, we removed a wall that separated the kitchen from the rest of the living space. The kitchen features built-in cabinets with new countertops and added storage. With the new layout, the kitchen gained space, adding a pantry, built-in ovens, and a workstation.
