West Seattle Artist Retreat

This full home remodel began by creating a new layout that would meet our client’s needs as they age. The client is a talented artist and desired ample space to create her masterpieces, as well as providing detailed input on colors and textures.

We started by reorganizing the walls on the main floor. An unused bedroom was converted to an office, allowing the laundry to be on the same floor as the master bedroom. We converted the closet into a powder room, allowing us to create a true Master Bedroom en-suite, which was the only bathroom on the floor previously.

Removing walls and opening up the dining room expanded the kitchen. The increased square footage in the kitchen allowed for a peninsula island, providing an area for the homeowner to paint. Crisp cabinetry and decorative backsplash add visual appeal.

The basement is an artist’s retreat, complete with a guest bedroom and bathroom. The Mechanical Room was designed to incorporate a Dye Room for fabrics. A Sewing Station and painting area are strategically placed to take advantage of the Puget Sound views and natural lighting. Removal of the furnace chimney increased square footage in the Master & Basement baths.

The patterns of the wallpaper in both the Powder & Dye Rooms not only reflected the homeowners’ talents, but also contrasted the clean look of the home, enhancing the design.

After a gut remodel, the once a dark, dreary and broken up layout, is now open and bright, giving the clients the retreat they desired.
