Greenwood charmer

When the homeowners bought this 1918 home, they knew a remodel would soon follow.  They desired an open floorplan with as much ceiling height as possible, all while staying with the home’s original square footage.

The vaulting of the ceiling created one large spacious living, cooking and eating area. Natural light floods the space from the new gable window and kitchen skylight.  Everything, including the skylights and white walls were added to highlight the outstanding feature of this home, the wood collar ties, which are not only a design element, but structural.

The kitchen was designed with built in’s, and organized storage which is critical to the open floor plan living continuing the clean, functional look.  The bathroom is tucked behind the kitchen and features a dramatic black hexagon tile that tumbles down the shower wall and throughout the bathroom floor.

The era of this home is captured with authentic details like the original archways and cedar wood paneling.  A clever sliding barn door allowed us to keep the archways intact and with a nod to the original paneling. The natural wood featured on the oven hood, fireplace mantel and new hardwoods add character and enhance the design.

While this renovated home maintains its original layout, it is a dramatic transformation that realizes the homeowner’s vision for the space.
